For 2020 the annual Global Diabetes Walk/Durban Wellness festival in Durban also became another silent victim of the COVID19 epidemic that affected the general organization of the event. To this end and with the view to preserving the memory of the event which is in its 9th year organisers Nerve Events have taken the decision to go ahead with a virtual edition for 2020 taking into consideration the current South African government guidelines which at time of this release was at Level 1.

On Saturday the 14th November which is also WORLD DIABETES DAY we are asking our loyal supporters and the public interested in or who are affected by Diabetes to support Diabetes South Africa and walk or run on the day.

We are not limited to time or location, so we urge all South Africans to do their bit of exercise on the 14th from 06h00 to 18h00 in solidarity to commemorate the day. You can walk in your neighbourhood, local park or along the Durban Beachfront whichever is convenient to you. Entry for this year’s walk is free and we look forward to your support donations are welcome which will go to Diabetes South Africa ” comments Paul Godwin from Nerve Events.

The organisers have also included a SNAP Photographic competition to this year’s event and the public are encouraged to take photos of themselves during their day perhaps wearing blue or fancy dress adding some creativity and to send photos to Nerve Events, hampers have been donated by Diabetes South Africa to the best 3 photographs submitted. For this competition we are asking people to submit photographs and an entry fee of R60 per photo submission to raise funds for Diabetes South Africa.

We have already a number of people committing support on the 14th with the Durban Young Diabetes Adult Group committing support on the day spearheaded by Sister Vera Yon who states We need to spread the call to being aware of Diabetes, it still is the World's biggest killer”

And organisers have received interest from DSA’s Pietermaritzburg branch and even supporters from Johannesburg will be supporting the cause on the day. So we ask you all to join in and support.
