Wrt the fire disaster at 66 Musgrave road, I was there earlier to assess and I want to thank the community and well wishers for their overwhelming support and contributions in the form of food, toiletries and clothing. Top floor 4 units were totally burnt and destroyed.
Family 1:
Husband, wife and 2 daughters aged 10 and 15
Family 2:
3 ladies
Family 3:
Husband, wife, 2 daughters aged 16 and 24
Family 4:
Husband, wife and 1 year old baby boy.
Hot meals for the families for today has been arranged.
There has been an overwhelming response with the groceries and clothing so I suggest we hold for now. We will advise further.
We await the landlord together with insurance company and municipality to give us some sort of indication wrt the temporary placement of these families.
Councilor Charmaine is on sight trying to assist and facilitate goods being dropped off.

Povall Court in Musgrave Road Berea was engulfed in flames in what seemed minutes as fire ravaged the top floor of the block of flats. The fire started during ESKOM loadshedding which plunged the community into darkness from 22h00 and Midnight on Saturday the 16 January.
The Durban Fire department was on site in minutes, but could not save the top floor of the building, fortunately, there were no fatalities and only one injury was reported via the community CPF

Residents are in urgent need of
Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, spray, sanitizer, clothes, shoes, furniture it would be appreciated.
If there are any bed and breakfast available to give these people a place to stay kindly assist.
They are left with nothing but the clothes they ran out with.
Kindly note a central drop off point is 66 Musgrave rd unit 02.
